KUDO AI Assist and Interpreter both put text near the interpreter, but the setup is different. Start with where your assignment happens, not which product has the longer feature list.

We make Interpreter. This comparison uses published product information, not a controlled accuracy or latency test.

## Short Answer

[KUDO's AI Assist announcement](https://kudo.ai/newsroom/press-release/kudo-launches-groundbreaking-ai-assist-for-interpreters-setting-a-new-standard-for-real-time-support-in-multilingual-meetings/) describes source-language transcription inside its interpreter console, designed for simultaneous work.

[Interpreter](https://useinterpreter.com/) is a browser-based transcription and translation workspace you can operate alongside a compatible, authorized audio source.

If your assignment already uses KUDO, check the console support available to you. If you work through different agency systems, test whether an independent workspace fits your capture setup and your client's rules.

## What KUDO AI Assist Provides

KUDO announced AI Assist on May 13, 2025, as an included feature for its multilingual platform users. The announcement describes live text intended to support numbers, acronyms, and terminology.

That is access within a platform, not a promise that anyone can attach AI Assist to any phone call for free. Confirm current availability and plan terms with the host or KUDO before accepting an assignment.

Vendor descriptions of accuracy and cognitive benefits are not our independent benchmark. Neither product should be treated as proof of what a speaker said when the audio is uncertain.

## Where OPI Changes the Setup

An agency call may arrive through a browser portal, a softphone, or another system. You may not control the platform. A host-managed interpreter console and a separate reference workspace offer different kinds of access.

Being able to hear audio on your computer doesn't guarantee that another app can capture it. Browser permissions, operating system, headphones, and source routing matter. Test them before the shift.

Permission is a separate question. An interpreter-operated tool is still an outside service if it receives client audio.

## Feature Comparison

| Need | KUDO AI Assist | Interpreter |
|---|---|---|
| Published positioning | Source-language text in a simultaneous interpreter console | Transcription and translation support alongside calls |
| Setup dependency | KUDO platform and host/account access | Compatible audio capture and supported browser setup |
| Text reference | Source-language captions described in launch materials | Transcription, translation, speaker labels |
| Supporting tools | Confirm current console features with the host | Quick Lookup, Floating Notes, custom glossary |
| Cost | Launch announcement said included for platform users; verify current terms | Base $0.45 per active hour, same balance for both modes |

## Data and Approval

Before either tool receives sensitive audio, ask who has approved the exact feature and account. Approval for a meeting platform doesn't necessarily cover every AI feature added to it.

For protected health information, [HHS describes the role of business associate agreements](https://www.hhs.gov/hipaa/for-professionals/covered-entities/sample-business-associate-agreement-provisions/index.html). The appropriate review depends on the service and relationship.

Ask your privacy or compliance team about contracts, processing locations, subprocessors, retention, and permitted purposes. We do not claim blanket HIPAA compliance or independent security certification for Interpreter here.

## Choose Based on Your Assignment

Check KUDO AI Assist first when you already have an authorized KUDO interpreter-console assignment. Ask the organizer to demonstrate the enabled feature before the event.

Consider testing Interpreter when you need a separate reference workspace and the required parties approve its use. Confirm the source audio, language pair, and fallback when the connection drops.

For either option, use public practice material to compare:

- Missed or incorrect words, particularly negations and numbers
- How easy it is to follow the text without losing the speaker
- Whether revisions distract you
- What happens when audio is poor or the transcript stops

Keep useful notes and request clarification whenever needed. A transcript is assistance, not the official record.

Interpreter's [trial includes 20 minutes](https://useinterpreter.com/pricing/). Start with practice audio, then decide whether the setup helps your own work.
