Interpreter vs InterpretBank for interpreters
Choose InterpretBank if you prepare glossaries for conference or booth work.
Choose Interpreter if you interpret phone or video calls and want every word on screen, without preparing a glossary first.
The main difference: InterpretBank helps you prepare. Interpreter helps you during the call.
What InterpretBank does
InterpretBank is computer-assisted interpreting software for conference interpreters. It helps you build multilingual glossaries, study terms with flashcards and look them up in the booth.
Conference interpreters use it to prepare for specialized assignments, where knowing the terms beforehand is half the job.
What Interpreter does
Interpreter puts every word of your call on screen as people speak, with the tools to act on it. It's built for phone (OPI) and video (VRI) interpreters. It works with call audio you share from Chrome or Edge, any call app on a Mac or Windows computer, and supported Android apps. Nobody else on the call joins or installs anything.
Live translate shows both languages as people speak. Captions only shows what people say, and you click a caption to translate just that line. Each speaker's turns get their own color, side by side or stacked.
Before the call, set the Call topic, like medical, legal or insurance, and add the names and terms you expect to hear. Your glossary sets how a term is translated, up to 200 terms. During the call, press Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac) for Quick lookup, keep a callback number in Notes, and press Space to pause. Paused time isn't charged. Interpreter is HIPAA compliant, SOC 2 Type II audited and GDPR compliant.

The real question
These tools solve different problems.
InterpretBank is about preparation: build glossaries, study terms, look them up in the booth. It assumes you know the vocabulary you'll meet.
Interpreter is about the call itself: names, case numbers, addresses and dates on screen as people speak, prepared or not.
Some interpreters use both, one to prepare and one on the call. If you work OPI and have to pick one, taking notes during calls is the harder problem. AI won't replace you, but it can carry the details.
Common questions
Is InterpretBank HIPAA compliant?
Check InterpretBank's current terms if you handle medical interpreting calls in the US. Interpreter is HIPAA compliant, SOC 2 Type II audited and GDPR compliant.
Where does Interpreter run?
In a web app in Chrome or Edge with nothing to install, in a Chrome extension in the side panel, in a Mac and Windows app that hears any call app on the computer, and in an Android app for apps that allow audio capture.
How does Quick lookup compare to InterpretBank's glossary search?
InterpretBank searches glossaries you built before the call. Quick lookup needs no prep: press Ctrl K (⌘K on a Mac) mid-call, type a word, and get a translation with an example and alternatives. For terms you use often, your glossary sets how they're translated.
Can I use both tools together?
Yes. Some interpreters who do conference and phone work use InterpretBank to prepare glossaries and Interpreter on live calls.
