Before you start
Have these ready.
- The Interpreter Chrome extension installed from the Chrome Web Store.
- An Interpreter account with available minutes.
- The browser call tab or desktop call app you want to use.
Start a session
Follow these steps.

Open the call source
For Tab audio, open the browser call tab. For System audio, keep the desktop call app ready and open Chrome.

Open Interpreter
Select the Interpreter extension in Chrome to open the side panel, then sign in.

Set the session
Choose Transcribe or Translate, select both languages, then choose Tab, System, Mic, or Both.

Select Start
Select Start. Tab uses the active tab, System opens Chrome's source picker, Mic asks for microphone access, and Both asks for the selected call source and microphone.

Keep the panel open
Confirm that speech appears beside the call. Select Stop in the side panel when the session ends.
Session input
Choose Tab, System, Mic, or Both.
Choose the source that matches where the call audio is coming from.
Tab
Transcribes audio from the active Chrome tab where you opened the extension.
System
Opens Chrome's source picker so you can choose an available screen, window, or tab with audio.
Mic
Uses your microphone. Chrome will ask for microphone access the first time it is needed.
Both
Combines Tab or System audio with your microphone. Approve the call source and microphone prompts.
Troubleshooting
Fix common start problems.
The tab cannot share audio
Open the tab you want to transcribe, reopen the extension on that tab, and start again. You can also choose System or Mic.
The captured tab closed
Open the call tab again, reopen the side panel, and start a new session.
Microphone access is blocked
Allow microphone access for the extension in Chrome settings, then select Start again.
The extension updated
Close and reopen the extension before starting a new session.

Common questions.
Does the extension read my agency page?
No. The extension does not need to read or change the agency page to keep the side panel open.
Why did Chrome show a source picker?
Chrome shows the picker for System audio. Tab audio starts from the active tab where you opened the extension.
Does the extension use a separate balance?
No. The web app and Chrome extension use the same Interpreter account and minute balance.
Does Interpreter save my audio?
No. Interpreter never saves your audio. It is discarded after processing.
